Nefarious

This week, my associate pastor – Jeff – gave me a video to watch. It’s called “Nefarious: Merchant of Souls.” The movie is about sex-trafficking and the trade. My wife, my oldest daughter and I watched it last night. About all I can say is, it was powerful and very disturbing. I’m not going to try to second-guess the film on the things they didn’t say, or on how they said things – because I could. There are things I would have liked to see them talk about. The film is dark and shocking. But they ended it with a hope-filled message of Jesus Christ.

Romans 5:1-2 NIV84  “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And web rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.”

Thanks be to God who justifies us and cleanses us. As I read those verses this morning, I kept thinking of God’s love for sinners and his abhorrence for what the devil has done to and through us. And I became more sorrowful for the evil that still resides in me. I’m not judging anyone for what they have been involved in. I can’t. I have enough to stress over just in and of myself.

But I can think of these words from Psalm 136 NIV84 –

23      to the One who remembered us in our low estate

His love endures forever.

24      and freed us from our enemies,

His love endures forever.

25      and who gives food to every creature.

His love endures forever.

26      Give thanks to the God of heaven.

His love endures forever.

God is good – all the time. We are not. But I am thankful His love endures forever. Cleanse me Lord. Cleanse this world and come soon, please.

Now the question remains. What are we going to do about it? Give money? Get personally involved? Preach the gospel in love? Live the gospel?
