What really is the answer?

As I sit here, five days after the shooting in Newton, CT, and longer after the one in Clackamas (which is close to home), I am watching all kinds of people post on Facebook about gun control, gun safety, and why we should and why we shouldn’t control guns. I get a little tired of the FB discussions actually, and the extremity of it all.

However, this post isn’t about gun control. I don’t think controlling guns is the answer anymore than I believe any politician has the answer. The answer we are looking for isn’t in a new political scheme, new laws, new taxes or less taxes. The scariest moment coming isn’t the fiscal cliff.

Jesus christ of revelationNo the scariest moment coming if when Jesus comes back with the only true answer. Scary? Yeah, I’m scared for a number of people I know and love, who don’t know and love Jesus. Yet, he is still the only answer. I’m praying my people will see that. I’m praying your people will see it. I’m praying America will see it. I’m a schizophrenic pray-er. I’m praying Jesus comes soon, but praying he waits until people are ready. I can’t decide if I want him to come now or wait. I don’t know that answer, but I know the one who does….

John 3:16-21 NIV84 16“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”

  1. appreciate this article. I thought of a quote I read today by Timothy Keller “If God wiped out all sources of evil in the world we would no longer be here, the evil is inside us.” People forget that we are not inherently good, but inherently evil. We need to be remade. I think of Matthew 13:29-30 But he said, ‘No, lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.’ ” We forget why God allows pain to continue…so that out of the pain there will be more joy. Romans 8:17 (ESV) and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. Pain always comes before the joy. I long for more people to have that. Thanks again.
