Title: PREPARE TO PREACH

S: Ephesians 6:10-11 NKJV  Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.  (11)  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Ephesians 6:18-20 NKJV  praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints--  (19)  and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel,  (20)  for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

O: Preparation comes when we put on God so that we can put off the devil.  Preparation comes when we put on God’s armor so that we can stand.  That then gives us the power to preach without reservation – boldly – the word of God.

A: I see that need.  This daily time, to not be distracted with other things – email, work junk, whatever needs to happen in the day, electronic stuff, so that I can think through putting on God’s armor each day.

The Belt of Truth

The breastplate of Righteousness

Shoes of the preparation of the Gospel of Peace

Shield of Faith

Helmet of Salvation

Sword of the Spirit (Bible)

Praying always

Being watchful

Persevering to the end

These things are what we are/should be trying to do in the moments of our daily devotions.  It’s not about getting through the time, it’s not about reading certain things and having a check mark on our page that we got it done.  It’s about preparing for the battle so that we can persevere in the Bible.

So, the Belt of truth is about learning new truth each day to bind up the rest of what we know – like a Belt holds up our clothes, truth holds up our belief in God.

The Breastplate of righteousness is about taking Jesus into our hearts and allowing Him to be in charge each day.

Shows of preparation – are about thinking through what needs to happen each day and being governed by the gospel of peace – not troublemaking, not warmongering, not kidding or joking, but trying to bring peace in our lives.

Shield of Faith is about hearing stories from the Bible about people dealing with things like we deal with, seeing that they came through and seeing that we came through.  Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Sword of the Spirit – is the Bible – it’s our main tool.  We learn it, we polish it (read and re-read), we memorize it.

Praying always – means to pray.  It’s not about going through the motions, but actually talking to God about things that matter.

Being watchful – starting the day aware of what you are feeling, aware of all that needs to happen, making a plan and being prepared for anything that may come up.

Persevering to the end – never, never, never giving up in the fight to be like God and to put the devil down.

P: Lord, I want to learn that.  I want my kids to learn that.  Please guide us.  Please lead us.  Please direct our thoughts and direct our minds.  I pray that they can learn and study this to their good pleasure and to their growth – but me too, Lord.

If I followed this goal and pattern each day, I would be much more aware of how Satan may want to attack me.  This gives me the background to fight back.

F: Feeling. I feel like today that I am at the end of my vacation and that I need to be careful to not just jump back in the mix of things.  I feel like I need to be careful to do things carefully as I approach work again – to stay more balanced, to become more like God, to listen more, to get away more.  But I need to be careful to not get sucked into my Dad’s anger, my own familial feelings, etc.  I feel like that’s something that drives a lot of my temptation.

Lord, I pray for the Holy Spirit.  I pray for an understanding of the way I feel.  I pray that I will listen to you today and not listen to anything else.  I pray for the Holy Spirit to guide me.  I pray for the Holy Spirit to lead me.
