Title: THE REMNANT
S: “.I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I
will be their God, and they will be My people. None of them shall teach his
neighbor and none his brother, saying ‘Know the LORD,’ for all shall know
Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. For I will be merciful
to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will
remember no more.” Hebrews 8:10-12
“And it shall come to pass in that day that the remnant of Israel..Will
never again depend on him who defeated them, but will depend on the LORD,
the Holy One of Israel, in truth. The remnant will return. To the Mighty
God.” Isaiah 10:20-21
O: The remnant is described here in both passages. In the first they are
described as those who depend on God alone. In the second, they are
described as those who don’t need to be told about God, because the law is
written on their own hearts.
Both of these things are inexplicably linked together. When we trust in God
alone, it’s because of God’s ways written on our heart. When the law, God’s
ways, are written on our hearts, we learn to trust in him alone. It’s a
cycle that is never ending.
A: Each day that I read the Bible, God’s ways are being written more and
more into my heart. Each day, as I read His word, I am becoming more
trusting of God alone. Ah! I am becoming part of the remnant.
Revelation 14:12 talks about the remnant in regards to their keeping the
commandments and having the faith of Jesus.
It’s the same thing as these two passages. The commandments = the law. The
greatest of which I’ve been outlining in my sermon series – Love God, Love
your Neighbor. The faith of Jesus = Trusting in God alone for everything.
I want to be part of that group. That’s why I focus on scripture. That’s
why I take fasts from the internet periodically. That’s why I strive to
listen. That’s why I’m struggling to breakthrough and get my afternoon
devotional time going stronger. I want to be part of the remnant – who keep
the commandments (have it written on their hearts) and trust God (have the
faith of Jesus)
P: Lord, I pray for guidance in my life. I pray you will lead me to listen
to you, to follow you, and to be more trusting of you. I know you have the
answers for all my days and all my life. I know you have all it takes to
lead me. But still, I try to lead myself. Forgive me.
I want to become a listener of You, Lord. I want to be a follower of You.
I pray you will help me to focus and really grow into my afternoon
devotional time. I pray you will fill me with the Holy Spirit.
I love you, Lord. I will serve you, Lord. I will follow you.
