S: “.let us through off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily
entangles…. Therefore strengthen your feeble arms and week knees.. Make
every effort to live in peace with all me and to be holy; without holiness
no one will see the Lord.” Hebrews 12:1, 12, 14

O: Here the writer says very clearly that we have a part to play in the
Christian walk. This isn’t about salvation, as much as it is about
sanctification. This is about a way in which grow with God.

So much of the Christian world is so confused by this issue. They want to
say continually that we have no part to play in our salvation. That is
true. We only make a choice to accept and follow or not. But following
that moment, we have a part to play in our walk with God.

The writer of Hebrews says simply that WE must throw off the sins that so
easily entangle us, WE must make every effort and WE must strive for
holiness. The effort, the work, is on us, not on God.

I think the reason that most Christians find this confusing is that they
don’t follow the sacrificial system to the very end. That system had
several parts to it:
1. Sacrifice
2. Atonement
3. Day of atonement

Most Christians stop at the sacrifice. Some move into the atonement part of
it. But almost none finish the system and move into the day of cleansing –
the day of atonement. In other words, there are huge implications when we
stop a the cross and we don’t follow the plan of salvation through the
symbolism like God gave it to Israel.

Again, it’s not about salvation, but it’s about sanctification.

A: The question for me, am I throwing off the sin that so easily entangling
me. It sure does entangle easily. I often wonder how I got so involved
with this sin or that one. It’s like a creeping vine that gets a hold of me
before I know it. Maybe an octopus is a better analogy. Either way, I can
get all tied up.

I think I am making strides to put away sin. I think I am making strides to
allow the Lord to lead me away from my selfishness. I think I am sure that
things are not always what they seem to be and that I should follow God,
because he’s never let me down.

I think I am coming to grips daily with the idea that Grace saves and Grace
changes. In other words, I know that we’re headed in the right direction.

P: Lord, I don’t express that to be proud of myself – not at all. Rather, I
express that to remind myself to keep going the direction you are leading
me. I pray for the Holy Spirit. I pray you will guide me. I pray you will
lead me and focus my attention on you. I pray you will fill me with the
Holy Spirit.

I ask you into my heart. I love you.
