Title: A PROPER TIME AND PLACE
———————————

S: “Jesus entered Jerusalem and went to the temple, He looked around at
everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the
Twelve.. On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple area and began
driving out those who were buying and selling there..” Mark 11:11-15

O: It appears to me as if Jesus understood the idea that you take care of
things in a proper order and not always just when you are in front of it.
In other words, Jesus could have tried to drive everyone out during the
evening hours, but there were some inherent problems with this: The traders
may have gone home or were going home, there wasn’t the crowd there to make
the scene that Jesus wanted to, or perhaps he just needed to rest before he
took this stand. But anyway you look at it, Jesus truly was able to decide,
“Not now, I’ll do it only when the time is right.”

A: I think that kind of drives home some of my organizational stuff. It’s
not always about the urgent, but the important. Yes, there are urgent and
important items, but there are also urgent and unimportant and there are
important and not-urgent and of course the not-urgent and not-important
kinds of busy-work that can get us all kind of trapped.

In this last year, I’ve been trying to focus more and more on the idea that
I will work out of the important and not-urgent. I get MORE flack from
those that think it’s urgent that I DO their thing rather than what God is
calling me to do. I get MORE flack from those that think their crisis
should make it my emergency.

Jesus is here telling me that I simply need to stay the course. He’s
telling me to do what is important and not what others think I ought to
think is important.

P: Lord, I pray for the Holy Spirit to guide me in my day-to-day decisions.
I pray that as I sit down to plan my week, I will put the right priorities
in place and THEN that I will stay the course and not get sidetracked by
everyone else’s emergencies and everyone else’s problems, or by the
stupidity of sitting around and doing the unimportant things when there is
so much else that needs to be done. I pray for the Holy Spirit to lead me.

Lord, I pray you will continue this journey with me. I love you and I will
follow.
